Extreme Makeover: Me Edition--Overcoming Obstacles

I know that as women and especially moms, all too often in the scheme of life & routine, we put ourselves on the back burner. I imagine a lot of nods & "amen sista" to that one. We make sure that everyone else is taken care of, and at the end of the day, we don't have enough time or energy to give ourselves the proper care that we need & deserve.

I hope and pray that you find some sort of encouragement to say,
"You know what? I AM worth it. It's time to take care of ME."

And you know what? God thinks you are worth it. Your family thinks you are worth it. Look in to the eyes of your husband, child, or someone very special to you--and you will see that you.are.worth.it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome everyone! For you newbies, here's the skinny {ha!} This is a group of mostly women, {but everyone is welcome} who are on a mission to get healthy. To make themselves a priority. To take care of themselves, as well as taking care of everyone else. Are you ready to join in? Well, let's go!

----------------------------------------------------------

Directions: Every week, you'll do a specific post on your blog in regards to Extreme Makeover--Me Edition.

----Pretty much, just update us on your progress. How did your week go? Did you struggle? How were you successful? Do you have any great tips? {I think it's also important to celebrate even little successes}

----Answer the specific question or topic that I pose each week.

After you've finished your post, view that specific post {either view your blog & click on the title of that post, or go 'edit posts' and 'view'}. Grab the url and post it into MckLinky. Simple as that!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week's question: What is your biggest obstacle right now? How are you making plans to overcome/push forward?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm, I have a couple of obstacles right now.

1) Working out/exercising. My energy level has been down, obviously, and it's just so hard to make myself work out.

2) Eating right. Today was a really good day, but most of the days lately I have felt pretty crummy about food choices. I'm not nearly as nauseaus as my other pregnancies, but it comes in waves. And the thought of cooking or certain foods just repulses me.

3) Taking my prenatal vitamin.

How I am overcoming/pushing through:

1) I've been just making myself be more active throughout the day. I've been purposefully trying to do small chores in opposite sides of the house. Anything to get more walking in. Today I did the Prenatal Yoga that my sister in law sent me. It was good, and relaxing. The hard part was that I am a terrible breather. I always have been. I've even had doctors talk about how shallow my breathing is. So yoga proved to be difficult for me when I was done. I felt very light headed and queasy. But I'm sure my body will get used to it, and adapt.

2) Today I had a really good eating day. Lately, I've had a lot of high calorie days. Too much pizza, lol. I've been trying to eat healthy meals, and cut out the Diet Soda as much as possible. I have a little whenever we go out, but refrain at home unless I have a bad headache. Since it was SO nice here today, and actually cold, I started drinking hot tea. I've been wanting to start drinking my homemade vanilla chai lattes, but it's just been too hot. Tonight I had 2 cups of decaffinated green tea, and it was so good. For a snack, I had a Yoplait light yogurt {yes the same one they showed on The Biggest Loser tonight} :) I'm really going to watch my calorie intake, and allow myself to have pizza and stuff, but in moderation.

3) I've been taking them at night before bed. Lately, I've just been finding it so hard to take them because I either feel nauseaus or have indigestion. I'm going to try taking them late morning, after I've had my breakfast. Then it will have a long time to absorb before I get the indigestion. Also, I will eat another meal a couple hours later, which will help to stave off that yucky feeling you get when you have vitamins on an empty stomach. {I get that, even when my stomach is not empty.}

So there you go. That's how I'm overcoming the obstacles I'm up against right now.

What about you??

My prenatal always nauseated me too. But you know how important the first trimester is! You can do it Mama. :)

I used to get sick with the prenatals too and it definitely helped me to take them late morning. Hope you feel better soon!

Good job Amber! It is hard to eat right and be active with morning sickness. It sounds like you are doing a great job!

Keep up the good work!

My prenatal made me sick last time so they switched me to a basic over the counter and I didn't have any more trouble.
How is the prenatal yoga? Good for you with watching your calorie intake while being pregnant. I was horrible about that both times!

Hi Amber - good for you, pushing through even when it's tough - what a great home you're giving your growing baby, and what a good example for your girls.

After I finished my post, I read the second part of yours on how you're pushing through - I'm humbled because I only wrote about my obstacles. :)

Keep it up, girl!

I am not a good vitamin taker either... It sounds like you're doing a good job working through your obstacles. :)

You did yoga! I love yoga! It will get easier the longer you do it. Just be careful on some of the moves because sometimes when you are bent over and come up the way they say I get light headed, so be careful and don't fall over or something.

I always try to put my vitamins next to my kitchen sink so I'll remember (sometimes it works). You're doing good! Keep up the good work!

Pizza is my high calorie fall back too. I just love the stuff!

And I JUST started working out again, but I'm starting super slow...Tuesdays and Thursdays I do a 45 minute cardio and then HOPEFULLY I'll get in another day on the weekend (hasn't happened yet)...I'm hoping that starting off slow will keep me motivated to keep doing it.

I tell you I've vouched to stop eating fried foods. Wish me luck and good luck and job to you girl.

Oh my goodness girl...if the 10 miles worries you- you can so make it 8 or 6 or just whatever...the point is to get out and walk. so set a goal and just make sure you stick to that. Sign up and share your weekly goal and then you will have the accountability! YOu can do it! and besides- walking will make your labor so much easier!!!

Hope this first trimester will go well! Prenatals always make me even more sick, I usually don't keep them down at all! Good luck, and take it easy!:-)

You always have such a great attitude. I love it!

My obstacle lately has been motivation. Since I'm not working full time right now (NOT by choice, might I add!), I do have more free time and I do The Shred and on the other days, I do some cardio. The Shred takes a lot more motivation though, and some days I just don't wanna. It's tough. But I always tell myself that I'll feel better afterward and it's true every time.
